Summertime and TCM

The summer heat is upon us and it is not going to cool down until about October or maybe even November here in the Texas Hill Country. At this time of the year our inclination is to drink lots of cold drinks with lots of ice. But, have you ever wondered what other options are available to you. Have you tried putting slices of cucumber and basil in a water picture or perhaps just filling a pitcher with water and then adding slices of lemon and limes to it for another refreshing drink that is cooling and refreshing. Eating watermelon is also great for cooling the body down and adding much needed water to our system. In China, they put out mung beans water, which will also lower the body's internal core temperature keeping you from having a heat stroke or heat exhaustion. What are some of your favorite foods or drinks that are good for you and help cool you down?

  • I haven't been on here for about a year. I have been busy creating a safe place to treat and care for those of you that are searching for an alternative treatments.   • When you go see your PCP, you are going for a specific reason, much like coming to see your Licensed Acupuncturist. When you tell them for example that you have a runny nose and a cough. He is going to assess that you may have a common cold. He is going to prescribe you some drugs, potentially an antibiotic that you have to take for 10 days. All of this occurring within 3 - 10 minutes. When you come see me, I am going to spend time asking questions about chills and fever, scratchy throat, color of any nasal discharge or phlegm. I am going to look at your tongue and pay attention to your tongue coat, as it informs me about you as an individual and what type of "wind invasion" you have and how I am going to treat it. I take your pulse as well. Armed with that information, I then know how I am going to treat you and what herbal formulas I may recommend that you take to release and expel the "wind invasion". I will spend a minimum of 1 hour with you instead of the 3 - 10 minutes. Comments or Questions?
  • Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion (CAM) describes it this way, "The science of acupuncture and moxibustion is an important component of traditional Chinese medicine used in the prevention and treatment of disease." It however is not just that but also includes Chinese Herbal Formulations.
